Frederic Chopin enjoyed important friendships with many of the most important figures of the Romantic age. This recital centers around a collaboration between Chopin and a princess of de facto “operatic royalty,” Pauline Viardot on a transcription of several Chopin Mazurkas for voice and piano. Placing these songs in the context of other composers who were friendly with or admired by the piano composer, soprano, Christina Howell and pianist, Grant Jones give a snapshot of the musical landscape of the late nineteenth century through their performances of songs by Felix Mendelssohn, Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, and Vincenzo Bellini as well as several of the Chopin Mazurkas.
