After working with Peach State Opera as a performer for over 10 years, Pedro is excited to step into the position of Executive Director. With a background in business and sales, he is eager to help Peach State Opera continue to grow and achieve their mission to enrich, empower, and engage communities throughout the Southeast. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Georgia Southern University and his Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Florida State University. He is currently a Professional Artist with Vocal Artists Management Services (VAMS), the Director of Opera at Reinhardt University, Voice Faculty at United Music Studios, and an Advisory Committee Member for Georgia Musicale Group.
Mr. Carreras has been celebrated for the “fiery passion, real lyricism and sensitivity in his singing.” (New York Concert Review Inc.) He has appeared in operas at Orlando’s Timicua Arts Foundation, Texas Public Radio’s Carlos and Malú Alvarez Theater, University of Florida’s Harn Museum, and regularly performs with The Atlanta Opera, Capitol City Opera, and Peach State Opera here in Atlanta. He has appeared in recital at The National Opera Center at Opera America, with DCINY at Carnegie Hall, and at several venues with Georgia Musicale Group. As a soloist, he has performed with the Georgia Festival Chorus, Utah Philharmonic, Columbus State’s Choral Union, Alpharetta Community Chorus, Min Pak’s Atlanta Philharmonic, and Georgia Southern’s Symphony.
His notable opera roles include Manrico in Il Trovatore, Pollione in Norma, Don José in Carmen, Rodolfo in La Bohème, the title role in Andrea Chènier, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Lensky in Eugene Onegin, the title role in Werther, Alfredo in La Traviata, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, and Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore. New opera roles that Carreras has premiered include Athlete in Before the Last Meter by Saman Shahi, Governor Eugene Talmadge in A Scholar Under Siege by Dr. Michael Braz, Joe/Neville Chamberlain in The War Bride and the title character in Ribas-Dominicci by Nathan Felix.
Mr. Carreras has taught masterclasses for Georgia Musicale Group, North Fulton Music Teachers Association, University of Delaware, Savannah Arts Academy, Carrollton Center for the Arts, and Georgia Perimeter College. Several of his students have been awarded prizes at local, state, and regional competitions.
Beyond classical music, Mr. Carreras has performed in several musical theatre revues, done voice-over work for TBS: Adult Swim, and appeared as a featured artist on the Light the World, United Music Studios Holiday Album, Big Snow Entertainment in December, 2019.
