2019-20 TOUR

The gypsy Carmen is a free spirit who follows her whims and desires, intoxicating and entertaining those around her but often leaving chaos in her wake. So when the meek but handsome soldier Don José crosses Carmen’s path, it seems that he will eventually join the ranks of forlorn men whom Carmen has loved and then discarded. However, as José becomes obsessed with her, forsaking his fiancée and his career to pursue Carmen through the city of Seville and even treacherous mountain passes, the question emerges: “Who is more dangerous?” (Read a synopsis of the opera here.)

The “Habanera” and “Toreador Song” from Carmen are among the most popular arias in all of opera and have been a part of popular culture for decades. The music of Carmen is widely acclaimed for brilliance of melody, harmony, atmosphere, and orchestration, and for the skill with which Bizet musically represented the emotions and suffering of his characters.

Peach State Opera shares the thrill of live opera with small communities in the Georgia region. Scroll down to see where the company is touring this year and to learn more about the cast and crew.
