Simple yet fervent country bumpkin Nemorino is hopelessly in love with Adina, an independent and attractive yet fickle land-owner. With the dashing Sergeant Belcore also competing for Adina’s affections, Nemorino turns in desperation to traveling con man Doctor Dulcamara and his “elixir of love” (really a bottle of cheap wine). Dulcamara’s faux love potion causes a domino effect of hilarious plot twists and surprise romantic turns in composer Gaetano Donizetti’s operatic masterpiece of beguiling arias and intoxicating duets.
